The text presents contemporary representative cases (people, associations and publications) of the self-proclaimed Zealots in the modern Greek reality in order to explain that the invocation by them of Zealots of the past such as Saints Theodore the Studite and Maximus the Confessor is completely arbitrary and erroneous as, based on their texts, these two figures explicitly understood the role of Orthodoxy as a teaching example and institutional autonomy of the Church within the state. They rejected the use of state imposition on different non-believers and other religions. On the contrary, the modern "Zealots", as can be presumed by a long series of interventions, texts, activist actions, etc. over decades, they have been fighting for the imposition of Orthodoxy on state institutions and laws of modern Greece and through them on the society, asking thus the state to do the work of the Church! The article is freely accessible here: The Place of the Religious “Other” in the Byzantine Zealotic Thinking and the Modern Greek Fundamentalist Groups: A “Self-made” Tradition in: Individual and Community in the Public Discourse of the Orthodox Church Many cordial thanks to the editors and their erudite work.
